The Mighty Gulmohar

It wasn't until many moons ago that we shared many lunches under the cool shade of the mighty gulmohar on hot summer days... But the tree has gone. It died a slow death. It wasn't hacked down for a building or a billboard or widening of the roads as is the norm these days. It just withered away. The brilliant red flowers stopped showing up last summer, and with it went the last shrieking calls of the raucous koel. The leaves followed suit. It was only withered fruit, and bark for a long long time showing no sign of life altogether. That was just the beginning of the end of the mighty gulmohar in all its splendid glory... I guess I just miss the crimson flowers strewn across the terrace, some of which adorned my desk at work, and the many conspiracies we had in its shade to safeguard the planet for a greener tomorrow...
